    Default Skin Care Routine

    Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum so apologies if this has been asked before.

I've decided I have to start looking after my skin now and am starting a new skin care routine. I'm a male in my early 20's with oily skin and prone to zits, blackheads, whiteheads.

    1) Is "cleanse, tone, moisturise" daily and exfoliate twice-weekly what I should be doing?

    2) And what about these "clay masks"? Are they appropriate for me?

Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you

you should have sunscreen in your routine. clay masks might help to pull blackheads. i don't know about doing them daily. they might dry out your skin too much. as for exfoliation, don't rub too hard you can damage your skin. you can actually tear your skin microscopically.

Absolutely use a sun screen daily. Use a clay mask only once a week and only exfoilate once a week as well. Use the mask and the exfoilation at the opposite ends of the week. For example, use the mask on Sunday and then exfoilate on Thursday.

If you shave you already exfoliate to some extent. I agree with the once a week for that.
You could easily make a moisturizing clay mask with Kaolin Clay and oils of choice with some glycerin, throw E and A in there. I saw the recipe on another forum someone posted. Don't know if I should post it here though.
Anyway, the point I was going to make is that Kaolin Clay is not so drying for dry skin. You could check with Mountain Rose Herbs and read the profiles for each of their clays.

You could post the recipe here just give credit to the person who formulated it.

This was formulated from someone on another forum. She was duping a commercial product for the same type effects. We all know that's a fun challenge.
    Here are the ingredients:
    1. 40 grams Kaolin clay
    2. 15 grams H20 + 3 grams glycerine...beat with blender till creamished
    3. In another bowl: 15 grams oils, 0.5 grams vit E, 0.5 grams Vit A and 5.0 grams poly 80. Mixed
    4. Combine the two while blender whizzes away, pouring #3 into #2 and done.
    5. Tossed in phenoxyethanol on top as that was way way too much for one application. And EO.

DragoN from Skin Care Talk is the one that came up with this. I had it in my notes but not the link. If this is incorrect to post this I trust I will be corrected.

Like female skin care, men's facial care also starts with cleansing procedure. For this purpose it is recommended to use water soluble cleansers. This cleansing procedure helps to remove the dirt, pollutants, grease and excessive oil from the skin, preventing the pores from clogging. Male skin tends to be oily by nature; that is why cleansing is all-important for men to provide the proper skin care. This procedure should be done at least once every day. But it is much better to cleanse your face twice a day: in the morning and in the evening before going to bed. Attention: Applying soap on the face is not recommended.........

Great information about our skin. Nice post. Healthy skin comes from having a good daily facial skin care routine. Your skin is able to cleanse, heal and even renew itself. How effectively it does these things is partly governed by how well you take care of it. Thanks for sharing..
