Afraid to look in the mirror. Too embarrassed to leave the house. Concealer never quite out of reach. Bracing for the next time you’ll be called an ugly name. Seems like everyone is staring at you.

These are the everyday anxieties of someone struggling with problem skin. We understand, because we’ve been there ourselves.

These are the everyday anxieties of someone struggling with problem skin. We understand, because we’ve been there ourselves.

Blemishes happen to the best of us, but when they’ve gotten out of control, it can make us feel unattractive, overwhelmed and powerless. As he explains in his Letter from the Founder, SkinKick founder M.J. Schirle started SkinKick to help alleviate the emotional suffering that problem skin causes for so many teens and young adults. Schirle hopes clear skin will help bring a clear mind for all. Below are some of our favorite tips for coping with anxiety from problem skin.

1. Keep a positivity journal.
Don’t yet have a journal? Get one — it will change your life. Each day, before you start your day, write down one thing you are thankful for and one thing you love about yourself. Then, when you are having a tough day, read a few of your entries for a quick mood and confidence boost.

2. Be kind to yourself.
Don’t beat yourself up: More than 50 million Americans suffer from acne annually. You’re not alone! Next time you hear that mean inner voice say something negative, pause and replace that thought with something positive. Frustrated by yet another pimple? Remember what beautiful eyes you have or yesterday’s great workout. You deserve to be treated with compassion — by yourself more than anyone else!

3. Catch their eye and smile.
Resist the urge to hang your head low in a crowd. Walk tall, meet the eyes of passersby and smile brightly. Give it a try and you may be surprised. Confidence can make you look and feel beautiful.

4. Get involved in a hobby you love.
Get your mind off your skin! After all, though some days it doesn’t feel like it, there’s much more to life! Take up a hobby that makes you feel energized and happy. Whether you become an avid runner, a crafty DIY-er or an aspiring chef, your new hobby will remind you just how talented you are and how fulfilling life can be.

5. Give SkinKick a try.
SkinKick fan Alexa calls it “self-esteem in a bottle.” We believe strongly in the power of our natural products to kick blemishes — without the itching, dryness or irritation. And, we’ve seen great results! Happiness guaranteed: if you’re not satisfied, we’ll refund you.
