Default ** White Spots on Face - What is it? Help! **

I am a 27 yr old male who started to develop a semi large white spot on both sides of my face a little over a month ago and it does not seem to be going away. I have made a trip to the dermatologist and was prescribed a cream called Vanos. I have been using it and it is not working. I can not get another appointment for some time so I wanted to reach out to the community for help. It does seem like somewhat dry skin, but the color is definitely lighter than the rest of my face as well.

    Anything would help!

Hi Jay! Welcome to DermaTalk. First wanna ask you few questions. Are the lesions scaly or smooth white ? How often have you been out in sun recently? Are the lesions itchy?

Hi thanks for your rely. The spots are somewhat scaly. Looks like dry skin when I do not apply lotion. After I apply it, it becomes smooth. I was out in the sun for a few days recently, but this has been there prior to being out in the sun. The sun only made it worse. No the lessions are not itchy at all. At this point, I am just not sure what it could be. When I was at the dematologist, he didn't seem concerned and said a lot of people have them. But that wasn't a good enough answer in my opinion......

Hi Jay! As you described your lesion as scaly I think the most possible diagnosis could be pityriasis alba which appears generally in children when you are out in sun for long peroid. This is self limiting condition, your doctor seem to prescribe you mild steroid, it may be helpful. Also try to avoid sun ray for sometime and also try to apply sunscreen regularly on the pheripheral black areas when you are out in sun. Hope that will help, do not worry this is not harmful and will by itself with time.

For treating it ginger juice is very useful. Hydrocortisone and moisturizer are also helpful to disappearance of white spots. You have to use the pack of turmeric, honey and sandalwood powder twice in week.
