Default Four Basic Skin Care Needs

There's tried-and-true ways to properly care for your skin, from the right way to cleanse your face, to the best moisturizers and sunscreens.

Before we start with the proper daily 4-step skincare routine, you'll need to know your skin type. How you care for your skin is utterly dependent on the type of skin you have: oily, normal/combination, dry, sensitive or sun- damaged.
    The Basic 4-Step Skincare Regimen

    Step 1: Cleansing
Simple is key here. You need to find a good cleanser that your skin responds well to, and stick with it.
You can find a good cleanser at the drugstore. There's no need to spend $40 on a fancy wash. Avoid bar soaps as they tend to dry out the skin. According to Rona Berg, in her book, "Beauty," a French cosmetics executive once told her, "Soap should only ever touch your skin from the neck down." We agree. Choose a creamy cleanser if you have dry skin or a clear cleanser if you have oily skin.
Be careful not to cleanse too often. Washing at night should do you. If you have dry skin, consider cold cream like Pond's, which the French use. Simply apply cream, then wipe off, no water needed (if you have hard water it can be especially harsh on skin). Most women prefer the water method: Use warm water to loosen dirt and clogged pores. Use a dime-sized bit of cleanser, then rinse with cool or lukewarm water. You'll also want to take off your makeup with a proper makeup remover.

Default Four Basic Skin Care Needs

Once you know what kind of skin you have, you can then begin to have an idea of what you're going to have to do to keep it lustrous. The skin has four basic needs, and if you meet them, not only will your skin thank you, but everyone else will notice how much more vibrant you skin has become.

    1. Use a cleanser

Cleansing the face in the morning and at night before bed helps to clean and kill any dirt or bacteria that may have been accumulated throughout the day or during the night. Avoid using bars of soap as they tend to dry and irritate the skin, as well as any chemically based cleansers. Look for cleansers made with all natural ingredients like Tangerine Oil, a natural astringent that not only cleanse pores but also allows for essential nutrients to be more easily absorbed

    2. Moisturize

Using an all natural moisturizer every day after a shower or bath helps keep the skin hydrated and luscious. Be sure not to use any moisturizers with any artificial fragrances that can cause allergic reactions or synthesized chemicals that have a tendency to suffocate the skin. Moisturizing every day also helps to fight the signs of aging and assists in preventing skin damage.

    3. H2O

Proper water intake is probably one of the most overlooked factors in any realm of health. Drinking the recommended amount of water every day (between 8-10 glasses) flushes out toxins and bacteria in the skin and with time can even start to clear up acne.

    4. Sun block

Living in Florida, I am very well aware of the sun's dangers. With prolonged and unprotected sun exposure being the main causes of wrinkles, wearing a quality sun block with an SPF of 40 or higher is an absolute must. The sun's harmful UV rays also cause sunburn, sun poisoning, and skin cancer. Sun block should be worn only when in the sun and in overcast and reapplied every one to two hours even if waterproof.

Take the basic measures needed to keep your skin healthy now in order to save yourself the frustration in the later years. Cleansing regularly but not too much, moisturizing, drinking plenty of water, and wearing sun block is the first line of defense when it comes to keeping your skin the healthiest and youngest it can be.
