Default Fractinoal CO2 specialist for ethnic skin in the U.S

    Hi guys,

I'm from London and have some very minor scarring on my nose. I've been to a couple of dermatologists here in London who said that i need some fractional CO2 to re-surface the skin. The problem is, i have medium brown skin so laser treatment is a little more risky. After a lot of research, i'm not happy having the treatment in London. There seems to be a lot more knowledge across the pond in regards to treating ethnic skin with fractional CO2. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a highly reputable dermatologist in the U.S who is an expert in treating ethnic skin with fractional CO2. New York would be preferable, but i would also travel to L.A. I'm willing to travel anywhere to be honest, as i just want this done properly. I realize i will have to pre-treat my nose with hydroquinone, retin-A and an AHA peeling agent, which i have already started.

    Thanks guys.

Yup the risk of complication for dark skinned individuals is more than the fair skinned. As Sabina said India might also be a better option as they are specialized in treating dark skinned individual. Non-ablative fractional Erbium laser is also another good option for dark skinned individual with less chances of complication than CO2 laser.

    Hi guys,

thanks for the replies. I will definitely look up the 'Non-ablative fractional Erbium laser' Deepak. Thanks. Not sure i would be comfortable getting treatment in India. I would have much more peace of mind in the U.S. I've read about a couple of docs in NYC. One is Dr. Eric Schweiger and the other is Dr. Gary Rutherford. The latter has a special 'Ethnic skin' section on his website, whereas Dr. Schweiger seems to be 'da man' when it comes to Fractional Co2. He's developed some new technique called F.A.S.T, where only the scarred areas are treated using the fractional CO2 laser and the 'good' skin is left un-traumatized, which further reduces the risk of PIH. Apparently, it's a safe treatment for darker skin patients. I'm a fitzpatrick type 4 by the way. Luckily, my scarring is very superficial, so i might even do quite well with a low strength TCA peel. It's just finding the right doc. to do it !!!
