Alopecia/Birth Mark stopping hair growth

I have a bold patch on the front right hand side of my head. When I was a baby there was a dark brown birth mark there but now its as pink as my scalp which fools the hairdressers into thinking is alopecia. It's bumpy and no hair grows out of it, causing my hair to be thinner on one side of my head than the other. Is there a way to get hair to grow out of it?

Welcome to the forum Michelle, your condition may be nevus sebaceous, but, clear picture would help confirm the case and give specific suggestions. Anyway, there is no any guaranteed methods that can grow hair, however if the lesion is small it can excised (the bald part removed) and closure with the hairy part. Scarring does occur but the large patch of baldness will be replaced by minor threaded scarring.

Yes, the picture is suggestive of nevus sebaceous, which is usually considered as harmless lesion. Although several options have been tried including lasers and photodynamic therapy, the treatment of choice for cosmetic reason is surgical excision. As suggested earlier, surgical excision would give the best cosmetic result.

By the laser technique you can remove the birth mark .Then the hair growth will start.
